The Burk’s Falls & District Historical Society has a mission to educate and preserve the heritage of the area while providing educational learning opportunities, fostering community partnerships and stimulating visitor traffic throughout the region. The organization relies on a committed group of volunteers to operate the Wiseman’s Corners Schoolhouse and Watt Century Farmhouse museums.
Challenge
To create a sustainable business model for the Burk’s Falls and District Historical Society and to ensure continuity and growth as a tourism destination within the Almaguin Highlands.

Solution
KJCO worked with the Burk’s Falls & District Historical Society to develop a business plan and marketing strategy to act as a road map to guide the organization to becoming a sustainable tourism attraction. After the completion of the project, the organization was successful in receiving funding to complete the implementation of the marketing strategy.
KJCO developed and implemented a marketing strategy in order to increase visitation and yield at both historical locations. A suite of new tools were developed including sponsorship, membership and volunteer recruitment packages, printed marketing materials, website, social media accounts, marketing toolkit/how-to-guide, along with a communications plan, brand strategy and brand guidelines to ensure consistency throughout all marketing platforms.
